Over the summer, the girls and I went to a local museum. There hanging on the wall in the "Nevada History" section was this quote from Georgie Connell Sicking. It states, "Have you ever gone outdoor one morning after a summer rain, with a gentle breeze blowing across a black sage valley and smelled the earthy sagey freshness, none like it on this earth. It sure makes life worth livin', and you know when God was given' He didn't short change Nevada." Now, I know many will disagree with me, but I love my home state! It may be barren and desolate, but it certainly has its own unique charm to me. I remember when I came home from college, and we drove over the hill overlooking my city, I felt as though I had never seen such a comforting site. It was winter, so the already dry, dead land was even...dryer and deader. Maybe to some, completely ugly and depressing. I mentioned to my parents that it all looked so beautiful to me. My dad said, "I think you just might be a desert rat." Indeed, I just might be.
This was written by Leah. "Nevada is special to me because I like the 'pritee shaberush'." I like her swirly clouds. I bet it's wind...it's always windy here in Nevada.
Anna brought this home today. "The place in America where I would most like to live is Nevada. I would like to live in Nevada for several reasons. First it has all four seasons. Also my family lives here. Another reason is I like swimming at Lake Tahoe. Finally I like 'rideing' my scooter in my 'nieghborhood'. If I lived in Nevada I would feel happy because my family lives there. By Anna Roylance One of my favorite Anna-isms happened while we were driving on highway 50 through a "quaint" little place called Mound House. She says, "Mom, one day I think I'd like to live in a 'cat house' (because she likes cats)." I smiled and said, "Well, being a Nevada girl, you'll learn soon enough that a 'cathouse' ain't no place for a lady!"
Glad my girl likes her family! Made me all warm and fuzzy to know she'd pick my smiling face and bleak landscape over the other more attractive/exciting/green places in the world. We'll reevaluate their opinion in 10 years, but I have a feeling home will always mean "Nevada" to them.

LOVE this! Home DOES mean Nevada. I'm glad the girls are learning this early! :)
Love it! I remember when we first moved out there, Jim told me he wanted to get me there in early summer so I could see some of the green that might be around.
There's no place like Home...where ever your home may be.
