Big Words

This is an old picture of my girl, but I can't post without a picture of some sort!

Raychel loves to read. She can plow through books faster than I can, honestly. AND she's pretty good at comprehending what she reads. I've been trying to introduce her to new books about historical figures. Non-fiction has become her new favorite. When I was 7, I loved reading about Helen Keller. I found a couple of Helen Keller biographies at Goodwill, and gave them to Raychel. This morning as she was eating breakfast she says (verbatim), "I loved reading about Helen Keller. It's so amazing how she was able to triumph over tragedy. Is that why you loved reading about her when you were my age, Mom?" I stood there a moment letting the words that spilled so eloquently out of her tiny mouth soak in my thick head. I answered in my head first. Using my best hillbilly accent (while scratching my belly), I said, "Uhhh, I just thought it was a neat story. How'd I git sucha smart kid?" Then I answered (for real) in my mom voice, and we had a nice conversation about how Helen Keller was able to "triumph over tragedy". I loved discussing "fine" literature with my girl this morning. Maybe I'll give her some Jane Austen to decipher next? haha!

What an amazing little girl!! I love her beyond words! Today Mrs. Freeman, her reading teacher, stopped me in the hall and told me she was so amazed of the answers Raychel gives in all her reading comprehension questions, answers that could not be compared to others, very thoughtful answers:)
Raychel is a blessing to all.

Wow! That is really amazing/cool. What a smart little girl. Such a blessing to have her in your family. Wish we could be there to get to know her better. It is so fun to watch our little ones grow and become individuals. I can't wait to see what more comes from Raychel. She is destined for greatness. I can feel it.
