Leah's favorite: The fish
Raychel's favorite: The goat cheese
This year I wanted to start a new Easter tradition. Years ago, my dad bought some figs for us to try, so we could eat something that the Savior would have eaten. I thought that it would be a neat idea to do something like that for my family. Each Sunday we have a family dinner with my side of the family. After dinner, we have "Family Home Evening". Basically, we all gather together, sing some songs and have a (quick) lesson about the Gospel. My girls never let us forget about FHE. It's their favorite time of the week!
Tonight we combined the two events. My dad helped me come up with a menu for dinner. We had broiled fish, olives, flat bread, goat cheese, grape juice, fig newtons (couldn't find real figs, so we went with the next best thing), honeycomb, and a biblical favorite: mac and cheese. haha! My dad read the scriptural references while we dished up our food. We ate by fire and candle light. The girls really enjoyed trying all the new foods. I was quite proud of them being so adventurous. I think it put the the Savior in a new light for them. He ate food just like we do when he was on the Earth. I'm planning some other devotional type activities leading up to Easter. This is such a special time of year to think of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for the light of the Gospel I enjoy!

what a great idea. I may try some of those ideas or Easter Sunday dinner. what a great way to bring the scriptures to life and make this wonderful Holiday full of great meaning and spiritual reminders. youre awesome Ali. what a great Mom you are and such a beautiful family.
Oh my gosh. My faces! I did enjoy it despite the fact that my face looks like one of anger! :]
Glad that my girls have such a great Mom!
Mom of the Year award! Good for the girls for trying something new. That would never fly at my house. Seriously. You are such a good mom and example to me. Love you!
Oh, you guys!! I'm not worthy of all these kind words. Thank you, and I love you!
Thanks for sharing the great idea! Growing up in GA we always had a "Jerusalem Supper" on Christmas eve. The tradition didn't stick for us since we were never really into having Fish for the holiday (We'd much rather do the Brewer buffet!). But I would love to do it on several nights leading up to Easter. ....and reading scriptures with dinner is a great idea too.
