I recently fell in love with this Christmas carol, In the Bleak Mid Winter. The lyrics are beautiful and reminds us about giving to the Savior. I thought of one of my favorite quotes from Neal A. Maxwell:
“The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give,’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us. However, when you and I finally submit ourselves, by letting our individual wills be swallowed up in God’s will, then we are really giving something to Him! It is the only possession which is truly ours to give!”
Cecilee is always an inspiration to me about "New Years Resolutions". She is always making goals for the new year. I think this year I will try and be more accepting of God's will. I will do better about not complaining or questioning circumstances. I hope that doesn't mean I'm giving "permission" for something tragic to happen next year...HA HA!
I just know I sometimes (most of the time) get totally caught up in my own world and my own life. I want to remember, "Faith in the Lord needs to include faith in His timing." Dallin H. Oaks
In the Bleak Mid Winter
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, Whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, Whom angels fall before,
The ox and ass and camel which adore.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
