Can't. Deal.

I have been cutting hair now for almost 6 years. I love watching the trends change, and I love keeping my clients up to date. That being said...there is one trend that I despise. One trend I do not want to contribute to. It's almost as bad as the mullet rage of the 80's. I'm talking about this "emo", tight pants, long hair trend that is so popular with high school kids. It's hideous. I'm just going to direct my attention to the boys that participate in this "style." They don't look like boys! Seriously, how can you be a guy and wear pants that tight?! Then, they spend more time styling their hair than I ever do (or ever have for that matter). They sit in my chair and say they want a trim. I oblige even though I desperately want to grab my clippers and clip all that gnarly, flatiron burned hair off. I swear to you, they look in the mirror after it's over (the haircut), and I can tell they want to cry. They whine about how short it is, and they pull at it longing for the one inch of silky locks I just cut off. Just to remind you...we are talking about BOYS here.

Ok, I totally sound like an old fart. Am I? Am I wrong to think that a clean cut, short hair look is the best way to look masculine? My "glory days" were in the late 90's. Guys were all about short, spiky hair. Some even highlighted the tips (a little weird, but I accepted it). Anyway, let me know your thoughts. Love it or hate it?
Can you tell I just got done doing one of these "emo" haircuts?

This is "emo" hair for those of you unfamiliar. It's not always black, but it's always combed over the eyes and funky looking like this.

Isn't a style like this SOOOO much more attractive? Why would a boy not like this? Why would they prefer the above picture?

By the way...I was saying this phrase "Pretty Woman" over and over as my little client was shedding tears about the INCH of hair he lost this afternoon.

I was totally thinking about this the other day during church when I saw Grant, Trey and Zac looking so handsome compared to some of the other boys with the long sloppy hair. They just looked so much "cleaner". I hope these "emo" guys look back at their pictures in 15 years and are totally embarrassed! Have you seen Eric's mullet pictures when he was a kid! They're hilarious! :)

i was actually thinking the same thing this past week. whats up with that hair style and whats almost worse is those hooded sweatshirts that have sloppy print or busy patterns or something i cant describe other than it belongs in the 80's. LOL its too bad you dont have a ton of money to start up a series on TV titled " Alisons Salon" im sure it would be a great storyline.

Well, its always hard for me to embrace the new fads. It took me a couple of years to accept capris pants when they came back. I just thought they looked ridiculous. Now I love them.

I'm not saying that I think this emo look will grow on me.... Some things I can never get used to. And yes, they will definitely be looking back and cringing at their pictures.

100% agree with you. I can't stand that look. Drives me crazy to think people actually enjoy that look. At least I know Chad will never try that look =)Can you imagine that?
