This morning my friend, Dixie, called and asked if the girls would like to come over and pick to ripe tomatoes. Of course we did! She has a gorgeous garden oasis in her back yard. All sorts of plant life flourishes under her loving care. She kindly guided the girls to the different tomato plants and taught them how to pick the red tomatoes. Dixie is such an inspiration. She has given me the confidence to plant a few things on my own. Actually, I haven't planted anything yet, however, I have kept THREE plants alive for almost 4 months now...baby steps. As we were leaving, she showed us her grape vines. There were tons of red, ripe grapes. I asked her how on earth she kept the birds away from them. Here is her hint...she tied balls of tin foil and and pinwheels around and on the area. I guess the reflection from the shiny foil scares the birds away. That was Raychel's favorite part. She stood there and ate probably 50 grapes.

Life's a Garden; Dig It!

How fun! Lack of green thumbness must be a trait we inherited probablly not from Grandpa Key since he was a farmer I guess but maybe from Nana because neither my mom and I can keep any plant alive for any amount of time either. Oh well. Blame genetics! Hehe!
Dixie is an inspiration to all of us. I would love to plant a garden. That sounds like so much fun for your girls.
How fun! I love Dixie! I know the girls had to have fun. They are so stinkin cute! Do they like tomatoes?? At least their mommy will enjoy them :) I have faith that you will be able to have a bountiful tomato harvest of your own next year
That's sounds like fun! I have been itching to plant my own garden so I'll have to talk to Dixie and get some tips!!
Hello, I can't keep ANYTHING alive. I'm the flightiest person in the world.
I love my girls. You can TOTALLY see their personalities in their pictures. Leah is all earthy, her hair in her face. Anna is feisty and Raych takes her jobs very seriously. =]
LOVE MY GIRLS!!!!
Dixie's garden was always amazing! What an inspiration. Maybe when we are retired and the kids are grown we can get serious about gardening, right? I like plants that don't need attention. Our tomatoes failed miserably this year and the pumpkins are still green, but the peaches, nectarines and raspberries were amazing. They just grow on their own....
Sounds like so much fun!
