City Folk

My first professional game. I just found out I was pregnant with Raychel. Look how tiny Jenna was! James was trying his hardest to be a brat about getting his picture taken. :-)
My little A's fan. This was Raychel's first "vacation." She had just barely graduated from her O2. Her lungs loved being so close to sea level. It was so easy for her to breathe.
This was the day before Raychel's 1st birthday. Trudy and her friend came and met us at this game, and Amanda and Jeff came too. It was a night game with fireworks. Jacob and Raychel made it up on the huge TV. Two cute kids in Oakland gear, can't beat a shot like that!
This was our trip last year.
James and I enjoyed a weekend away to celebrate his birthday. We love going to Oakland to watch our A's play. We had the best tickets this time...3rd row right behind third base. Oakland won at the bottom of the ninth, and it was so much fun to be in the crowd and feel the energy. I can't wait for the girls to get a little older, so we can go as a family. I think they will really enjoy that.

So James and I could never live in a big city. Of course James is a small town boy, growing up on a farm in northern Utah. I, on the other hand, don't consider myself a small town girl, but big cities and crazy freeway systems freak me out. I don't know why James and I always manage to take the wrong exits, but we do...even with the help of Miss. Garmin. Honestly, Oakland is NOT a city you want to "sight see" as a stupid tourist. So we exit, lock the doors, and frantically try to get back on the freeway. In the meantime, I'm looking at the locals look at us. I'm sure they're thinking "dumb white people." Then we almost hit some crazy crack head darting in and out of traffic on his bike. YIKES!

We get to the hotel safe and sound. I'm going to give a shout out to priceline.com. I love that! We got this super nice Marriott hotel room for $50 on a holiday weekend. It's the only way to go. BART was right across the street, and took us right to the coliseum.

The game ends and we walk over to catch BART when we hear this BOOM!!!! The poor guy behind us (probably an Oakland native) drops his bag and crouches on the ground. I see a group of 6 cops at the top of the stairs scatter in all directions. I'm thinking "we are gonna see something go down!" Another BOOM!!!! This time, the cops start laughing and no one else is phased by the noise. It was the fireworks at the coliseum. They were echoing so loud in that BART station. It was funny when everyone realized that it wasn't a gang shooting (even though it totally could have been).

I was so glad to get my to my little city and family. My parents (and siblings) took care of the girls while we were away. I doubt they even missed us!

how funny. i agree everytime we go through oakland we always take a wrong turn and fight for our lives as we try to find the freeway again. sounds like quit an interesting A's game to say the least. but i myself have never been to a baseball game and from the looks of your pics it seems like it would be a lot of fun. we might have to give it a try sometime as a family.

Hey! I've never seen that picture of us at the game. That was so fun. I was so stressed about Jenna being cold and fussy. She slept through the fireworks....

Love that picture of Raychel. What a cutie! Don't you miss those days sometimes?

James cracks me up in these pictures!
